My Travel Essentials

December 20, 2017

I don't know about you, but the holidays almost always require travel for me. I currently live in beautiful Redondo Beach, CA but I'm originally from Buffalo, NY. Each year for Christmas, I travel back East to spend the holidays with my family and friends. I absolutely love being home this time of the year (even though it's SO cold in comparison) and being surrounded by the people I love!

The holidays can be super stressful without travel added in the mix. Since it's unavoidable for many of us, I wanted to share the things that are going to keep me calm, healthy and balanced while I'm traveling and away from home.

TEA

I love both Yogi Tea and Traditional Medicinals because they are organic and have great tasting teas. I always travel with ginger or peppermint for digestion and a detox tea to help carry toxins out of my body. Since it’s super cold in Buffalo and a 35 degree temp change, I’m bringing Traditional Medicinal's Seasonal Sampler pack, especially the cold care + breathe easy to help strengthen my immune system.

ESSENTIAL OILS

I just recently started getting really into Doterra essential oils and I have no idea how I lived without them before! I use their DigestZen blend everyday, because it really helps with digestion and bloating in case I have something that doesn’t agree with me. Since it’s cold season and I’ll be in airports, I’m bringing On Guard to help boost my immune system and protect against environmental/seasonal threats 😷  I use lavender so frequently that I made my own roller ball (15 drops lavender oil + fill the rest with fractionated coconut oil)  to bring me calm all day long and before bed for restful sleep.

ACTIVATED CHARCOAL

This is a must have in your health arsenal - especially when traveling! I’ve been using Bulletproof activated charcoal when I travel to help with jet lag, if I eat out somewhere with questionable quality and on the rare occasion that I drink alcohol. Think of charcoal like a sponge - it attracts and traps toxins and chemicals and allows them to be flushed out so your body doesn't reabsorb them. If you’ve never tried activated charcoal before, get on it! Just be sure not to take it within 2 hours of any other type of vitamin, supplement or medication, because it will absorb the good stuff, too! Also I wouldn’t recommended to take it every day, just as needed.

MAGNESIUM GLYCINATE

Magnesium is a vital nutrient to help your entire body stay healthy, as it's essential to so many different bodily functions. We don't typically get enough from our foods, so I typically supplement with it everyday. It's especially important when traveling because it calms your nerves, helps relax the muscles in the stomach to ease or pervent constipation, relieves muscle aches, promotes sound sleep, prevents headaches (especially migraines), and helps increase energy. I choose to use Magnesium Glycinate because it's highly absorbable by the body and does not cause laxative effects that some other types of magnesium cause.

REISHI

I use Four Sigmatic Reishi to help me calm down, relax and get a good night's sleep. It helps naturally regulate the hormonal system and lower cortisol levels. 🙌🏼 Needless to say, this elixir is best before bedtime, but they have a ton of other elixirs that are great for all through out the day. These have a very earthy taste, which I've come to love, because they are made from mushrooms!

TIGERBALM

I bring this with me in my carry on to rub on my neck, lower back and wrists while being cramped in the airplane seat. It's great for relieving minor muscle and joint pain, and can also be rubbed on your chest for a decongestant. I lave having this little jar with me!
